Trainee Program:
For its overseas clients and associates, Westerman, Hattori, Daniels & Adrian, LLP offers a hands-on training program in U.S. intellectual property law including patents, trademarks and copyrights. Trainees are invited to work on their firm’s matters side-by-side with the Firm’s professionals and can expect to receive close supervision and detailed instruction.
Trainees will also benefit from a customized training syllabus covering all aspects of the U.S. Patent and Trademark System. Lectures range from introductions to the U.S. Patent and Trademark System, to discussions regarding Litigation, and even the basics of Law Firm Management. We can adjust our training schedule to accommodate visits as short as one month or as long as a year.
Should the trainee’s company already be a client with us, the trainee can expect to work with the firm’s personnel in preparation and prosecution of their company’s patent or trademark applications. Through preparation of applications and responses during their training, trainees are able to master the practical aspects of U.S. patent application preparation and prosecution.
Our attorneys include both U.S. attorneys and Japanese Benrishi, so discussions and lectures can be held in either English or Japanese. With thirteen native Japanese among our staff, Japanese trainees are sure to feel comfortable in our office environment. The firm also has French and German capabilities.
For those that wish to strengthen their English, there are several English language courses available at local universities. Our staff can provide assistance finding living accommodations.
Previous trainees have included representatives of Fujitsu Ltd., Honda Motor Co., Ltd., Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd., and Nitto Denko Corporation; institutions of higher education such as Tokyo Medical and Dental University; and foreign associates located in Thailand and Japan.
