Certification of international application by USPTO, before forwarding application to WIPO

Certification of international applications will be done automatically by TEAS if the application is based on one U.S. application or registration [this feature offered by the USPTO has temporarily been suspended]. The international application form will automatically be filled in (we say that the form will be “prepopulated”), based on information in the system for the application or registration. Certification will be done manually by the Madrid Protocol Unit (MPU) at the USPTO when an international application is based on more than one application or registration, and the form will not be “prepopulated.”
